As a professional boxing trainer, in my opinion, all the key prerequisites for the long-term development of professional boxing are present in Armenia. The country has a rich history of combat sports, producing world-class athletes like Arthur Abraham and Vic Darchinyan, who have brought global recognition to Armenian boxing. However, there are some obstacles of strategic importance that must be urgently addressed by the bodies responsible for the development of sports. Currently, the burden of ensuring a prosperous lifestyle and social guarantees for talented boxers and their trainers falls heavily on the shoulders of the President of the Olympic Committee of Armenia.
While their efforts are commendable, this centralized approach is extremely risky and unsustainable in the long term. To secure boxing's continued success, we need to adopt a decentralized system that distributes responsibilities in terms of financing across multiple stakeholders, including government agencies, private sponsors, and local sports organizations. Additionally, investing in modern training facilities, and international exposure for young boxers could further elevate Armenia's standing in the sport.
By fostering a collaborative ecosystem that prioritizes athlete welfare and putting strategic and ambitious goals, Armenia can not only dominate the boxing arena but also become a country that inspires and motivates future generations to choose a professional boxing career and achieve their sport dreams.
